COMPANY SUMMARY

BW Terminals, Inc.  is an independent developer and operator of agricultural, petroleum and chemical liquid terminal storage facilities headquarter in the New Orleans, Louisiana area. BW Terminals currently has three terminal sites located in Westwego, Louisiana; Harvey, Louisiana; and Brunswick Georgia, with a total storage capacity of approximately 2.5 million barrels. The BW Terminals facilities are equipped to store a wide range of petroleum, chemical and agricultural products.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Shift Supervisor will oversee the daily operations functions of a bulk liquid storage terminal on the midday shift.  Coordinate with customers and internal functional groups including Logistics, EH&S to efficiently and safely load, unload and store various customer products at the facility.  Perform all work in accordance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise terminal operators and ensure that work is performed according to work orders in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Verify line ups for all transfers prior to starting a product movement.
  • Monitor overtime and address any concerns with management.
  • Effective and safe management of the operations function including coordination and scheduling of job assignments, development and implementation of operating procedures, EH&S compliance and quality assurance.
  • Perform terminal operations on an as-needed basis including, but not limited to product receipts, rack maintenance/troubleshooting, tank gauging, product sampling and testing, and general maintenance activities.
  • Actively participate and champion efforts to continuously improve the safety of operations including safety inspections, safety audits, compliance with policies and procedures, tailgate meetings, incident investigations, root cause analysis, completion of action items, and measurement of key performance indicators.
  • Maintain an effective workforce through performance management, in-house training programs, employee development, coaching and utilization of contract services.
  • Effectively manage the training programs for the operations department including operations and EH&S. This includes development/update of procedures; scheduling of training; implementation of training and maintenance of training records.
  • Conduct field and operational audits to measure performance versus expectations. Identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with and participate in the customer audit process when necessary.
  • Assist in the management of the terminal security function.
  • Issue permits for contractors working in the facility and ensure that they follow EH&S policies and procedures to complete work safely.
  • All other duties as assigned or requested by management.

POSITION COMPENTENCIES

  • Must be able to effectively communicate, orally (face to face and by telephone) and in writing, in English with coworkers, contractors, government officials and Management.
  • Read and understand written material (in English), including use and understanding of basic numerical calculations.
  • Ability to complete HAZ-MAT, DOT, Confined Space, and Lockout/Tagout training.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people and resolve conflicts and problems.
  • Must possess supervisory skills and be able to effectively manage employees and contractors.
  • Must possess well developed interpersonal skills to manage, lead, and direct personnel.
  • Able to organize and prioritize multiple projects and makes adjustments quickly as needed.
  • Ability to accept direction and work effectively & cooperatively with other people.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point).
  • Must possess leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with both company and contract employees.
  • Must be goal orientated, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Successfully and effectively follow all health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and operational practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work outside for long periods of time and in any weather conditions.
  • Willing to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at times.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work in protected areas at heights greater than six (6) feet above ground.
  • Must be able to work over water (dock).
  • Must be able to reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to hear and smell for deficiencies or hazards.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces (inside storage tanks).
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
  • Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required.
  • Must be available to respond to call-out as assigned.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, keep required work schedule, focus on attention to details, and follow work rules.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to withstand moderate noise levels. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required

EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic with a minimum five (5) years demonstrated work experience as a Supervisor or Manager.
  • Minimum of at least three (3) years of related work experience in industrial or maintenance work.
  • Must possess working knowledge of liquid and/or dry bulk operations.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record that meets company standards.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
  • Successful completion and passing of company pre-employment background check, drug screen and other related testing.

POSITION SUMMARY

The BW Terminals facilities are equipped to store a wide range of petroleum, chemical and agricultural products. The company was recently acquired by institutional investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Load or assist in loading/unloading of trucks, railcars and marine vessels.
  • Conduct tank sampling and other quality assurance activities.
  • Gauge terminal tanks before receipt of product by the truck, railcar or marine tanker vessel.
  • Update and organize appropriate documentation.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow written procedures.
  • Utilize computers to log information, complete required training.
  • Perform automatic and manual readings for tanks, boilers, pressure gauges, etc.
  • Perform housekeeping on various pieces of terminal equipment and/or terminal grounds involving physical labor activities such as lifting, hammering, wrenching, pulling or climbing.
  • Notify Supervisor if there are problems with terminal automation systems and all related equipment.
  • Keep appropriate documentation up to date, organized, and readily available.
  • Knowledge of terminal equipment, regulatory requirements, terminal maintenance and computer operations.

POSITION COMPENTENCIES

  • Successfully and effectively follow all health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and operational practices and procedures.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain equipment in a manner that will allow for safe, efficient operations 24/7.
  • Ability to work alone at times which will require a high level of motivation and initiative.

  • Must be physically qualified, including but not limited to, the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or drag hoses and equipment of up to 50 pounds in weight and climb heights up to 50 feet.

  • Must have good communications skills and technical language with ability to check for understanding to eliminate miscommunications.
  • Must have ability to work effectively with others.
  • Must have solid math skills (that meet requirements of the job including addition/subtraction,
  • percentages and fractions).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous terminal experience is preferred by not required.
